Stanley Cup connections; NCAA APR report; NCHC commissioner chatter

As the Stanley Cup championship series opens Wednesday, the Minnesota Duluth sports information office reminds fans there are two UMD-connected front office members from Ontario when spent time at UMD in the mid-1980′s: Chicago’s Norm Maciver, the assistant general manager, whose biography is here and Boston’s Wayne Smith, director of amateur scouting, here.

Academic Progress Rates have been released by the NCAA for 2012-13. Chris Dilks of Western College Hockey has the rankings of men’s hockey right here.

Let’s Play Hockey is reporting that Miami of Ohio senior associate athletic director Josh Fenton is being considered to follow Jim Scherr as NCHC commissioner. Fenton oversees hockey at Miami and is on the NCAA Ice Hockey Rules Committee. His biography on the school’s web site is here.
