Brown, Syracuse sweep in AHL; Gwozdecky among Connecticut finalists; Anchorage coaching search on hold; St. Cloud State’s Jensen signs with Detroit

J.T. Brown and the Syracuse Crunch earned the team’s first American Hockey League playoff series victory in five years Thursday night with a 4-3 overtime victory over Portland in Portland, Maine. That gave Syracuse a 3-0 sweep.

Syracuse scored with 72 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and with 17 seconds left in OT for the win, both goals from Ondrej Palat.

The University of Connecticut has three finalists, including George Gwozdecky, from among more than 40 candidates for its men’s hockey job. The Hartford (Conn.) Courant has an update here.

Alaska Anchorage has pulled back on its search for a replacement for Dave Shyiak. The school has come under fire and is reevaluating the search process according to Doyle Woody in an Anchorage Daily News story here.

St. Cloud State junior defenseman Nick Jensen has signed a contract with the Detroit Red Wings. Jensen, the 2013 WCHA defensive player of the year, was a Detroit draft pick. St. Cloud State has a news release here.
