An announced crowd of 52,051 was at Chicago’s Soldier Field on Sunday afternoon for the Hockey City Classic. After Notre Dame defeated Miami of Ohio 2-1 in an opening game, No. 18 Wisconsin edged No. 2 Minnesota 3-2.
Following a scoreless first period, the Badgers went up 3-0 on second-period goals from Kevin Schulze, John Ramage and Sean Little. Minnesota countered with third-period goals from Seth Ambroz and Zach Budish (with an extra attacker with 1:42 to play. Minnesota led in shots 38-19. Minnesota remained tied with North Dakota for fourth in the WCHA (but has two games in hand on the teams directly ahead, Minnesota State-Mankato and Nebraska-Omaha). Wisconsin moved into sixth place.
