Three second-period goals in five minutes propelled Minnesota Duluth to a sixth straight win Saturday afternoon, a 3-2 victory over No. 9-ranked Ohio State in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association women’s game at Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
The Bulldogs (13-8-3, 12-7-1 WCHA) have a 10-game unbeaten streak (8-0-2), their best stretch since going 10-0-1 from Jan. 22-Feb. 26, 2011. They’ve scored 28 goals in the six-game win streak.
After a scoreless first period, UMD had goals from right winger Jenna McParland at 2:28, and centers Zoe Hickel at 4:25 and Brienna Gillanders at 7:28 for a 3-0 lead. Hickel and Gillanders connected on power plays. Hickel and McParland lead UMD’s scoring, each with 20 points.
Ohio State (15-9-2, 10-8-2) scored the final two goals, both on power plays.
Winning goalie Kayla Black (12-8-3) had 28 saves and has season marks of .926 save percentage and 1.97 goals-against average. The Buckeyes led 30-29 in shots on goal.
UMD, 7-4-1 on the road this season, climbed past Ohio State and into a WCHA second-place tie with Wisconsin, which is home today against Minnesota.
The Bulldogs are at No. 1-ranked Minnesota (25-0) this weekend.
