Minnesota leads six WCHA teams ranked in the Top 20 to start the second half of the season in voting by U.S. College Hockey Online. The Gophers smacked previous No. 1 Boston College 8-1 Sunday in the Mariucci Classic in Minneapolis.
Minnesota is No. 1, North Dakota No. 7, Denver No. 11, Minnesota State-Mankato No. 14, St. Cloud State No. 15 and Nebraska-Omaha No. 16. The U.S. College Hockey Online poll here.
Minnesota Duluth (7-10-3) is off until a home series Jan. 11-12 versus Michigan Tech (6-10-3) on Jan. 11-12.
In one game Monday, Trevor van Riemsdyk scored with 2:52 left in overtime as No. 4 New Hampshire defeated Bemidji State 3-2 in the Ledyard Bank Classic in Hanover, N.H. Jordan George scored midway through the third period to get BSU into a 2-2 tie. UNH led 36-20 in shots. Attendance 2,365. From the Bemidji Pioneer here.
The Wisconsin-Superior men are ranked No. 11 and the UWS women No. 8 in the U.S. College Hockey Online Division III polls released Monday.
The UWS men (9-3-1) host the Yellowjacket Holiday Tournament this weekend, facing Nichols (Mass.) College (8-4) at 7:05 p.m. Friday and Curry (Mass.) College (5-5-1) at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Wessman Arena. Finlandia (3-8) of Hancock meets Curry on Friday and Nichols on Saturday, both at 3 p.m.
The UWS women (8-4) are off until a Jan. 11-12 series at No. 10 Adrian University (10-3).
The UMD women (7-8-3) are home Jan. 12-13 against St. Cloud State.
The only thing worse than the Bulldogs returning to their historic spot in absolute awfulness, after a way too brief stint near the top, is that the Gophers are No. 1. What a horrible season. Uffda. It doesn’t get any worse than this.
BBP – back off the ledge. The ‘dogs are young with a ton of freshman talent and a great recruiting class coming in next year. This team it still in the hunt for home ice. I know its your nature to have a negative outlook on everything but relax this program is a year or two from being right back challenging for a national title.
