Jack Connolly update; USA Juniors lose 5-1 to Finland; Fan Favorite voting; UMD’s freshman class

The News Tribune is doing a year-end Whatever Happened To? series on notable news and sports figures of 2012 from Northeastern Minnesota. Saturday’s update features Jack Connolly, right now in the midst of a two-month hockey break because of injury in Sweden. That story is here.

The U.S. lost 5-1 to Finland on Saturday in the final preliminary game leading to the World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia (which begins Wednesday). Chris Peters of the United States of Hockey has a game recap here.
