The WCHA at midseason; Bob Nielson leaves for Western Illinois

With a break in the college hockey season this week, marking the close of the first half of 2012-13, a couple of WCHA reviews by a couple of scribes:

Roman Augustoviz of the Minneapolis Star Tribune looks at who’s hot and who’s not in the WCHA in a blog post here.

Brad Schlossman of the Grand Forks Herald has a statistical note on each of the WCHA’s 12 teams, certainly for the 12 Days of Christmas, in a post here.

Minnesota Duluth returns to official practice Dec. 26 before beginning play Dec. 28 in the Florida College Classic in Estero, Fla. When the Bulldogs return to league play it will be home against Michigan Tech on Jan. 11-12 (the teams just met Nov. 30-Dec. 1 in Houghton).

Stephen Anderson of the Houghton Daily Mining Gazette provides all you need to know about Michigan Tech through the first half of the season in an analysis right here.

And UMD will be looking to replace its leader on the football field and in the athletic director’s chair as Bob Nielson accepted the job as head football coach at Western Illinois on Wednesday morning. The News Tribune has an update here.
