Welinski not named to preliminary U.S. Junior roster

Five WCHA players were named Tuesday to the 27-man preliminary United States roster for the 2013 World Junior Championships, although Minnesota Duluth freshman defenseman Andy Welinski of Duluth was not among those selected.

A U.S. training camp, Dec. 16-18, at the New York Rangers’ Madison Square Garden Training Center in Tarrytown, N.Y.

From New York, the camp will move to Helsinki, Finland, Dec. 19-23. The final 23-player roster will be announced Dec. 23. The World Junior Championships are Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Ufa, Russia. Phil Housley of South St. Paul is head coach for the Americans.

In August, Welinski was named to a final camp roster among 45 players at the 2012 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y.
