Game Day: Wisconsin at Minnesota Duluth

The WCHA season kicks off for No. 14 Minnesota Duluth (2-2) in 7:07 p.m. games Friday and Saturday against Wisconsin (0-2) at Amsoil Arena (94X FM, My9 and a News Tribune live blog right here).

After Saturday’s first period, the 1992-93 MacNaughton Cup-winning UMD team will be recognized at the rink. The News Tribune remembers that season here.

Mick Hatten of the St. Cloud Times provides the story of Hibbing native Marty Sundvall, one of the great people in college hockey, who passed away in May at age 46. Marty at one time was a writer and editor for the St. Cloud Times and was on the hockey statistics crew at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud and a frequent contributor with score updates to the News Tribune live blogs of UMD games. Marty will be remembered Saturday between periods of St. Cloud State vs. Minnesota State-Mankato, and his is told here.

  1. It’s now or never, boys. If Sandy is ever going to win the conference, this is the last year. Should have done it last year. Gotta sweep the teams ranked below you (like the 92-93 team did) and Wisconsin is one of them. Go Dogs!
