Defending NCAA champion Minnesota is ranked No. 1 in the U.S. College Hockey Online Division I women’s preseason poll for 2012-13, released Monday, while Minnesota Duluth is No. 8.
Minnesota defeated fellow Western Collegiate Hockey Association member Wisconsin 4-2 to win the 2012 Division I title March 18 at Amsoil Arena. The Gophers finished 34-5-2, going 16-1-1 the last 18 games, and Wisconsin was 33-5-2. Minnesota earned all 15 first-place votes in the opening poll for 150 points and Wisconsin was second with 128 points.

UMD went 9-3 the final 12 games last season and beat Wisconsin 3-1 in the WCHA playoff semifinals at Amsoil Arena before losing to Minnesota 2-0 in the title game.
The Bulldogs open 2012-13 with exhibition home games against the Minnesota Whitecaps Sept. 28-29 and begin the regular season Oct. 5-6 at home in a WCHA series against Ohio State.
