The new North Shore Striders; Big 10 playoff format

When Grandma’s Marathon began in 1977, the organizing group behind the effort was the North Shore Striders of Northeastern Minnesota — a hard core and citizen runners club, led by Scott Keenan. The club faded by 1988, but is being revived with the help of some seed money from Grandma’s Marathon, which turns 35 this week.

The News Tribune has a Monday story on the new North Shore Striders here.

Also the Big Ten hockey league, which opens in 2013-14, has picked a post-season tournament format as noted by Andy Baggot of the Wisconsin State Journal here.

And Denver goalie Sam Brittain, a freshman last season, is slated for knee surgery and may miss the 2011-12 season. The Denver Post has a story here.
