Jack Connolly All-American

Minnesota Duluth sophomore center Jack Connolly of Duluth was named a West Division second-team All-American on Thursday by the American Hockey Coaches Association. Connolly was named to the 2010 All-Western Collegiate Hockey Association first team last month.

Connolly led UMD in scoring with 49 points in 40 games. He’s the first UMD sophomore All-American since goalie Chad Erickson in 1989-90.

It’s the first time in 16 years UMD has had back-to-back All-Americans as Connolly followed goalie Alex Stalock. Connolly is the 23rd Division I All-American in UMD history.

"It’s certainly a well-deserved honor for Jack considering the start-to-finish season he had,," said Bulldog head coach Scott Sandelin. "I don’t know if there was a more consistent player in the country this season than Jack. He’s such a tremendous competitor — a guy who just hates to lose."

  1. Greta honor for a great player.
Still, something went wrong in the second half or he would have had the Hobey and not Boom Boom III.
Hope Jack can regain the first half magic for all of next season.

  2. What a huge honor for Jack! Congratulations to a great player. Duluth Marshall should be proud in the past couple of weeks 2 of their alumni have accomplished great things,,,an nhl contract for bordson and now Jack an all american!

  3. Given the Hobey’s constant lean toward upperclassmen — with a few exceptions, obviously — Jack probably would have needed 60-65 points to have a real shot. Not sure that was ever terribly realistic.

  4. I’m going to have to agree with “Hockey Fan” on this one rather than “hockey fan,” although Duncan did it with 57 points and he had Jonny Toews on his line (and Oshie) to carry him.

Kevin, you totally have to bump this up to the first story again, it’s way bigger news than, like, Wisconsin losing.
