Stalock, Wilson, Place

Some notes on Sunday, including goalie Alex Stalock, defenseman Clay Wilson and Minnesota Duluth super star runner Morgan Place:

Alex Stalock of South St. Paul, a former UMD goalie, and defenseman Clay Wilson of Sturgeon Lake have earned 2010 American Hockey League honors. Stalock, with the Worcester (Mass.) Sharks, was named to the league rookie team with 37 wins, a 2.64 goals-against average and .908 save percentage; while Wilson, with the Rochester (N.Y.) Americans, was named to the second team with 14 goals and 46 assists for 60 points in 74 games. Wilson has played 15 games in the NHL the last three seasons.

Stalock, with a league-leading 37 wins, hit a goal pipe a week ago in Norfolk in a 2-0 win over the Admirals. The attempt to score came with less than a minute to play after Norfolk had pulled its goalie.

Minnesota Duluth sophomore Morgan Place broke her own 10,000-meter school record Saturday in 35 minutes, 49.33 seconds, winning the event at the Central College Invitational track event in Pella, Iowa. The time, an NCAA Division II meet provisional qualifier, broke her school record by 20 seconds and broke the meet record by nearly two minutes.

UMD’s Michelle SanCartier ran 4:36.41 in winning the 1,500, just one second off the school record, and a Division II provisional mark. Elizabeth Crane also gained a provisional mark in winning the women’s shot put at 45 feet, 5 inches.
