Penticton Season Ends

     Forward Jake Johnson of Duluth and Minnesota Duluth recruit Derik Johnson, a defenseman, had their season come to an end last Saturday as Penticton lost to Vernon in the British Columbia Hockey League playoffs. Vernon won the best-of-seven Interior Conference final series 4-2.

     Penticton finished the regular season at 48-8 with a franchise-record 100 points. The Vees went on to beat Merritt 4-0 and Westside 4-2 in the BCHL playoffs before being stopped by defending national champion Vernon.

     Jake Johnson, a Northern Michigan recruit, finished with 10 goals and 23 assists for 33 points in 62 games; while Derik Johnson of Scottsdale, Ariz., the son of former UMD and NHL defenseman Jim Johnson, had a goal and 15 assists for 16 points in 75 games. The Vees are coached by former Wisconsin-Superior player Fred Harbinson.

     Vernon goes on to face Powell River in the Fred Page Cup, the BCHL championship series, starting Friday.
