Irvin 5K Field Filled

Registration for the 17th William A. Irvin 5K is now closed, Grandma’s Marathon announced Tuesday. The 3.1-mile race, scheduled for Friday, June 18 at 6 p.m., reached its 1,500-person limit less than one week after registration began on March 17.

Also, it took 51 days for 45,000 to sign up for October 10’s Chicago Marathon, according to Runner’s World; that’s a full month ahead of 2009’s schedule. A limited number of entries remain available through affiliated charities and tour groups for the October 10 race.

The William A. Irvin 5K starts and finishes alongside the permanently docked William A. Irvin ore boat near the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center. The event is the first of three road races during Grandma’s Marathon weekend. Registration remains open for Grandma’s Marathon, while registration is closed for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon. Both races are set for Saturday, June 19.
