Marvin Hit on Genoway

St. Cloud State’s Aaron Marvin smacked North Dakota star defenseman Chay Genoway head first into the end boards Friday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena. Video posted by Chris Dilks at Western College Hockey is at this site and some commentary is there on officiating. There has been no word on Genoway’s status other than coach Dave Hakstol telling the Grand Forks Herald that Genoway is out indefinitely and that he didn’t want to speculate on when Genoway would return.

Brad Elliott Schlossman had this recap in Saturday’s Grand Forks Herald:

St. Cloud State forward Aaron Marvin has been suspended for tonight’s series finale against North Dakota after his illegal hit from behind during Friday night’s game.

With 2 minutes, 33 seconds remaining in the second period, Marvin checked North Dakota captain Chay Genoway into the boards from behind. Genoway was slow getting up and was helped off of the ice by trainer Mark Poolman. Genoway did not return. North Dakota won the game 4-2.

Marvin was given an five-minute major for checking from behind along with a game misconduct. That penalty has not been changed. Marvin, a Warroad, Minn., product, was given the suspension under the league’s supplementary discipline.

  1. This hit wasn’t that bad, was not checking him into the boards from behind. UND player was already against the glass. The issue is how he threw his arm into his head.
