Jeanne Fleck of Proctor was the women’s winner in Sunday’s second Lake Marion Triathlon in Lakeville, Minn. Dennis Dane, 29, of Golden Valley, Minn., was first overall in a field of 290 in 1 hour, 4 minutes, 56 seconds for an .8-kilometer swim, 22.5K bike and 5K run. Fleck, 44, set the women’s masters course record in 1:16:03. It was her third overall win in 2009.
Also, the winners of the 2009 Garry Bjorklund Half-Marathon on June 20, gained victories in Sunday’s 32nd America’s Finest City Half-Marathon in San Diego, Calif. Ernest Kebenei, 24, of Kenya led a record field of 8,200 in 1:04:01 and Belainesh Gebre, 21, of Ethiopia took the women’s title in 1:10:49.
Gebre took the lead from the start and never relinquished it. "It was perfect weather and I’ve been training hard," Gebre told Running USA. "I had a knee injury last year, but this year I am fine." Her time was the third fastest ever recorded in the event’s history.
