Goucher to Chicago Half-Marathon

Preparations for the World Championships Marathon on Aug. 23 in Berlin will mean a trip to the inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half-Marathon on Aug. 2 for former Duluth East runner Kara Goucher of Portland, Ore.

The race announced Wednesday that Goucher will be part of the women’s field for the 13.1-mile race. Goucher has won her two previous half-marathon races.

Fresh off her second U.S. Championships 5,000-meter track title June 26, Goucher will return to the roads to make her U.S. half-marathon debut. The Chicago race webcast can be seen live on Competitor.com beginning at 6:30 a.m. The Web site is also planning to use —- Kara Cam, which is to provide a real-time video feed of Goucher’s race from start to finish, plus an immediate post-race interview.

In a statement Wednesday, Goucher said: "I’m excited to be part of the first Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon. I’m grateful for the opportunity to race as part of my preparations for the World Championships here on home soil, in one of the true great sporting cities. I’m very happy about the way my preparations have gone. I ran the trials in June and now it’s time to get back on the roads. I’m hoping to run well in Chicago and take that confidence into Berlin and give a good account of myself on the world stage."
