ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have signed undrafted free agent center Jake Hauswirth, a Merrill native, to a three-year entry-level contract, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hauswirth, 21, is a 6-foot-5, 210-pounder, who has spent the last two seasons with the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League. He scored 28 goals and added 24 assists (52 points) in 58 games this season, tied for the team lead in goals and fourth in points. He led all Lancers forwards and was second on the team with a plus 16 plus-minus rating.
