Goucher Back Home

Duluth-raised Olympian Kara Goucher was home Friday to talk with middle school students at Ordean and Woodland, an event organized by Grandma’s Marathon. Goucher, 30, who attended Woodland, told of her running career from seventh grade to today, as a professional athlete living in Portland, Ore. She also took questions from students ranging her mile best, her favorite color, and her stand on steriods and alcohol, and if she was faster than her husband, Adam, also an American track Olympian. Kara Goucher’s next major race is the World Championships marathon Aug. 23 in Berlin.

In last year’s Olympics, Kara Goucher, who lives in Portland, Ore., placed ninth in the 5,000 meters and 10th in the 10,000 meters. She placed third in the 2008 New York City and the 2009 Boston marathons. (Bob King / rking@duluthnews.com)
