Crazy, Part II……WCHA regular-season champion North Dakota lost to host school New Hampshire 6-5 in overtime in a Northeast Regional semifinal game Saturday afternoon in Manchester, N.H. The No. 10-ranked Wildcats (20-12-5) scored with 0:00.1 left in the third period to get into overtime, then scored 45 seconds into sudden death. New Hampshire trailed by two goals in the game. No. 8 North Dakota (24-15-4), seeking to get to a fifth straight Frozen Four, finished by losing the final three games of the season, including to Minnesota Duluth 3-0 in the WCHA playoff semifinals.
North Dakota led 5-3 halfway through the third period. Then Greg Collins of New Hampshire scored with nine minutes left in regulation and Thomas Fortney scored with one-tenth of a second to go to tie it. Peter LeBlanc got the OT winner. North Dakota outshot New Hampshire 45-34.
The second Northeast semifinal has No. 1 overall seed Boston University (and freshman winger Chris Connolly) vs. Ohio State, later today.
